Here’s a curiosity: it’s a pure Macabeu (or Maccabeo in Catalan) that my father-in-law already made in 1969.

The last one was made in 1995, and then we looked for other blends…

But there are still bottles of older vintages ! including this 1986:

The Macabeu can be recognised by its toasted character which is close to the “Rancio” of Roussillon and yet is not raised in an oxidative environment. The Jura people will find in it a yellow wine accent…

 

As for the 1985 vintage, it is round, honeyed, full-bodied, with aromas of fennel and broom, and an incredible freshness on the palate which, when blinded, surprises many palates!
